ADVENTURE TIME:

BATTLE PARTY

Platform: PC | Game Type: MOBA | Role: UX Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain game wireframes

  • Create and maintain host website wireframes

  • Create design pillars, user stories, flow

  • Team collaboration

  • Do competitive research

  • Some testing

  • Some iconography

For AT:BP, we had to balance the complex UX of the MOBA game genre with the unique needs of our younger audience.

My primary goal with this design was streamlining features while still retaining the deep choices indicative of a MOBA. We also wanted to shield our young players from the genre's infamous toxicity.

PRO PLAYERS ON AT:BP

WARNING: Adult language

As big MOBA fans first, the AT:BP team was ecstatic when a few professional League of Legends player, including ADC imaqtpie (1.65m YouTube subscribers) and top-laner HotshotGG(215k twitch followers) began streaming our game. Check out imaqtpie playing the game for the first time.

Sadly, in June 2017 the game had to be shut down for logistical reasons. We had many die-hard fans who were sad to see it go, and even now, 3 years later, they still post on the AT:BP reddit hoping for a way to play the game again.

HARVARD GAMEDEVS

Harvard University student Kendall Zhu explains why a goofy (and dead) game based on a cartoon show is his favorite MOBA of all time.
